Jeremie Frimpong will become Arne Slot’s first signing of the summer once Liverpool trigger his £29.5million release clause.

The Bayer Leverkusen right wing-back has expressed a strong desire to join Liverpool and reunite with his Netherlands teammates Ryan Gravenberch, Virgil van Dijk, and Cody Gakpo.

He has agreed to a five-year deal and is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days.

Slot is familiar with Frimpong, and Liverpool have been preparing to activate his clause for some time, with Trent Alexander-Arnold set to move to Real Madrid.

Liverpool, who recently extended right-back Conor Bradley’s contract until 2029, are also targeting Bournemouth’s left-back Milos Kerkez and a centre-back after missing out on Dean Huijsen, who is joining Real Madrid for £50million.

The club is also looking to sign a centre forward as Darwin Nunez is expected to depart.

Dutch international Frimpong will be the first summer signing of 2025 for Liverpool boss Arne Slot.

Frimpong is set to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is moving to Real Madrid.

Frimpong, 23, had an outstanding season under Xabi Alonso as Bayer Leverkusen secured their first-ever Bundesliga title last season.

He contributed nine goals and seven assists in 31 league games during Leverkusen’s unbeaten domestic campaign.

Though they could not retain the title this season, Frimpong still scored five goals and provided five assists in the league.

A graduate of the Manchester City academy, Frimpong moved to Celtic in 2019, quickly becoming a fan favourite and winning a domestic treble in his debut season.

He transferred to Leverkusen in January 2021 and has developed into one of Europe’s most exciting right-sided defenders.

Internationally, Frimpong has earned 12 senior caps for the Netherlands so far.
