The Bayer Leverkusen right wing-back has expressed a strong desire to join Liverpool and reunite with his Netherlands teammates Ryan Gravenberch, Virgil van Dijk, and Cody Gakpo.

He has agreed to a five-year deal and is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days.

Slot is familiar with Frimpong, and Liverpool have been preparing to activate his clause for some time, with Trent Alexander-Arnold set to move to Real Madrid.

He contributed nine goals and seven assists in 31 league games during Leverkusen’s unbeaten domestic campaign.

Though they could not retain the title this season, Frimpong still scored five goals and provided five assists in the league.

A graduate of the Manchester City academy, Frimpong moved to Celtic in 2019, quickly becoming a fan favourite and winning a domestic treble in his debut season.

He transferred to Leverkusen in January 2021 and has developed into one of Europe’s most exciting right-sided defenders.

Internationally, Frimpong has earned 12 senior caps for the Netherlands so far.
