Liverpool close in on £29.5 million Jeremie Frimpong plays wing-back VERY KEEN to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, and the deal might potentially go swiftly

Liverpool eye Jeremie Frimpong as potential Alexander-Arnold replacement

Bayer Leverkusen wing-back Jeremie Frimpong is reportedly very interested in a move to Liverpool if the Premier League champions decide to intensify their search for a new right-back this summer.

Jeremie Frimpong wants to move to Liverpool and he features high on the shortlist

The 24-year-old has a €35 million (around £29.5m) release clause, making him an attractive option for top clubs. With Trent Alexander-Arnold expected to join Real Madrid soon, Liverpool have placed Frimpong high on their shortlist.

While other names are under consideration, Frimpong’s profile — combined with his relatively affordable clause — could speed up negotiations if Liverpool move decisively. Despite reports in Germany suggesting a deal is close, Mail Sport states that no agreement is in place and rumours of recent talks have been denied by sources close to the player.

Arne Slot will be keen to improve upon his title-winning squad during the summer window

Frimpong, a former Manchester City youth product who also played for Celtic, is open to returning to the Premier League. He’s coming off an excellent season under Xabi Alonso, scoring five goals and assisting 12, after registering 14 goals and 12 assists in Leverkusen’s title-winning campaign the year before.

Leverkusen became aware of Liverpool’s interest as early as December 2024, with talks accelerating after Alexander-Arnold informed manager Arne Slot in March of his intention to leave.

Frimpong also made headlines off the pitch, signing a £20m New Balance boot deal in January, putting him alongside stars like Haaland and Messi in terms of sponsorship value. Celtic are set to benefit if the clause is triggered, receiving around £5.4m due to a 30% sell-on clause from his 2021 transfer.

The Bayer Leverkusen star could step into the shoes of the departing Alexander-Arnold

Beyond football, Frimpong is known for his charitable efforts. In 2024, he founded the Pathways Project, aimed at helping young players who don’t turn professional. “You feel vulnerable… depressed,” he once said of the rejection many youth players face. “That’s why I started this project. I want to help as much as I can.”

With Alexander-Arnold’s Anfield exit looming, Frimpong could be a key figure in Slot’s rebuild.
