Liverpool are reportedly considering replacing Darwin Nunez if he fails to show significant improvement this season, with Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres emerging as their top target.
Nunez has been inconsistent since joining Liverpool, scoring nine Premier League goals in his first season and 11 last term, along with eight assists. This season, Diogo Jota has been preferred as the starting striker, while Nunez has netted just once in his sole league start against Bournemouth.
According to Caught Offside, while Arne Slot currently supports Nunez, Liverpool could decide to part ways with him if he doesn’t improve. Should that happen, Gyokeres is seen as the ideal replacement, with interest from both Anfield and Premier League rivals such as Arsenal and Tottenham.
Gyokeres has been prolific for Sporting CP, scoring 54 goals in 58 appearances since joining in 2023. He netted 43 times last season and has already bagged 11 goals in eight games this term, alongside three assists, making him one of Europe’s most in-demand forwards.
Liverpool are also admirers of Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins, but his high valuation and contract situation make him a less likely option.
With Gyokeres’ exceptional form and widespread interest from top clubs, Liverpool could face a fierce transfer battle to secure his signature and revamp their attacking lineup.
