Spanish forward Nico Williams confidently aimed a challenge at the Netherlands national team following a dramatic draw in the first leg of the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals.
Spain extended their unbeaten streak to 17 matches after a thrilling draw away against the Netherlands in the first leg of the UEFA Nations League quarter-finals.
After the match, Nico Williams, who scored the opening goal, acknowledged the challenges posed by the home team. However, the 23-year-old forward made a bold statement as the team prepares to return home to face their opponents again.
He stated: “It was an incredibly tough and intense match. We knew they would play with high intensity, but the whole team proved that we will never give up. Now, an exciting second leg awaits us in Valencia.”

“We understand the importance of maintaining this form and giving our all, just like the entire team has been doing… When we return to Spain, we will certainly make them regret it.”
When asked if the draw felt like a victory, the Athletic Bilbao star affirmed: “We always strive for victory; that’s the spirit our team has cultivated. The entire squad is excited to head to Valencia and secure a complete victory. We have shown that we are a formidable opponent and will never back down.”
Nico Williams opened the scoring just nine minutes into the match. However, Cody Gakpo quickly equalized within 20 minutes of play. Before the first half concluded, Tijjani Reijnders put the home team ahead.

The dynamics of the match changed significantly in the 81st minute when Jorrel Hato was sent off, leaving the Netherlands with just 10 players on the field. Capitalizing on this opportunity, La Roja applied relentless pressure, and ultimately Mikel Merino shone in the third minute of stoppage time, sealing a dramatic 2-2 draw.
Both teams will have three days off before facing off again in the return leg in Valencia.
