Manchester United are set for a major squad overhaul and are targeting Bournemouth youngster Dean Huijsen in a £55m deal

Manchester United are reportedly targeting Bournemouth’s young star Dean Huijsen in the summer transfer window of 2025.

According to the Daily Mail, with the “Red Devils” only ranked 13th in the Premier League table, a large-scale squad overhaul is expected to take place at the end of the season.

Manager Ruben Amorim has identified Bournemouth’s promising young centre-back Dean Huijsen as one of his key targets. British media said MU is considering activating the player’s £55 million release clause.

The 19-year-old Spanish centre-back joined Bournemouth from Juventus last summer for £12.6 million and impressed in his first season in England. He made 18 appearances in the Premier League, helping Bournemouth concede just 28 goals – fewer than MU and only behind the top three teams Liverpool, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.

Despite their desire to sign Huijsen, Old Trafford will not find it easy to land the centre-back as Real Madrid and several top Bundesliga clubs are also keeping a close eye on the situation.

With Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans out of contract at the end of the season, and Lisandro Martínez suffering a serious injury and unlikely to return before the end of 2025, United’s defence is in dire need of reinforcements. Legendary Paul Scholes has also expressed concerns about centre-back duo Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro.

On Sky Sports, Scholes commented: “De Ligt was brilliant at Ajax, but it seems that the older he gets, the more he declines. Bayern and Juventus are both willing to let him go, what does that say? Do you think they’re quite good? But is being quite good enough to win the Premier League?”

With the current situation, United may push ahead with the Huijsen deal to strengthen their defence, helping Amorim build a squad that is competitive enough for next season.
