Bryan Mbeumo has previously indicated his desire to win the Champions League
Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo has fuelled transfer rumors after commenting on his future. The French-born, Cameroon international attacker is attracting interest from Liverpool and Newcastle United, according to reports in France, and has dropped a clear hint he is ready to move on from west London.
Mbeumo, who helped Brentford gain promotion to the Premier League and has played a huge part in their success in the top flight, admits he wants to play for the “best clubs” in an interview with L’Equipe. He said: “I’ve spent five seasons at Brentford, in a club that knew how to help me grow and take a step forward.
“I want to play in the biggest competitions, in the best clubs. It’s still enticing to see some big teams interested in me. We’ll see.”
While L’Equipe named Liverpool and Newcastle United as suitors for Mbeumo, Arne Slot and co. might well have the edge. That’s because Mbeumo has already made public what he wants from his next club – someone that can help him win the Champions League.
Speaking to the Evening Standard back in August, he declared: “I would like the win the Champions League. Anything is possible.”
Liverpool would clearly hold an advantage over Liverpool in that regard. They have qualified for the Champions League once again after missing out last season and have an incredible pedigree in European competition.
Reflecting on his time in England since a move from Troyes in the same Evening Standard interview last summer, Mbeumo said: “There have been some ups and downs.
“My agent told me about this project when I was at Troyes in 2019. The staff travelled to see me in France and I liked the project. It was tough. Even if I had a good English level at school, people speak faster in the actual country. It took time to adapt.
“I had a great first season here. The second was a bit of a down. The third was better, and then last season made me a better player.”
