Ruben Amorim, the new Manchester United manager, has taken up residence at the luxurious Lowry Hotel in Salford, Greater Manchester. The five-star hotel, a favorite of celebrities like Rita Ora and Lady Gaga, is a short drive from United’s Old Trafford stadium.
Amorim, 39, is being chauffeured daily to the club’s Carrington training ground in a black people carrier, continuing the tradition of high-profile United managers staying at the Lowry. His fellow Portuguese coach, Jose Mourinho, famously lived at the hotel for 895 days during his United tenure, racking up an estimated £500,000 bill.
However, Amorim isn’t planning a long-term stay. The former Sporting Lisbon manager has already begun searching for a home to accommodate his wife, Maria João Diogo, and their two sons. Popular areas among United players, such as Hale and Bowdon, are under consideration. He may even move into properties previously owned by former manager Erik ten Hag or ex-player Paul Pogba.
A United insider revealed, “Amorim is keen to settle his family in Manchester. He’s been exploring the city and enjoying its cafés. Who knows, he might run into Pep Guardiola or some City players nearby.”
The Lowry, a favorite of United for pre-match stays, boasts 165 rooms, including the Presidential Suite priced at £4,000 a night. It’s also renowned for hosting high-profile events and offering unique services like in-room facial aesthetic treatments.
Amorim’s managerial debut on Sunday ended in a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town. Marcus Rashford scored his fifth goal of the season just 80 seconds into the match, but Ipswich equalized through a stunning strike from Omari Hutchinson.
Post-match, Amorim’s interview with Sky Sports took an unexpected turn when Ipswich fan and pop star Ed Sheeran interrupted the broadcast. Sheeran greeted pundit Jamie Redknapp before quipping about Amorim’s apparent reluctance to engage, saying, “I don’t think he wants to speak to me.” Amorim’s reserved reaction underscored his focus on his Premier League debut.
The Portuguese coach now faces the challenge of turning around Manchester United’s fortunes as he navigates the intensity of Premier League football.
