Hazel Renee and Draymond Green share a history that goes back long before fame and accolades. Their story began at Michigan State University, where Hazel excelled in track and field, and Draymond became a star basketball player, leading the Spartans to two Final Four appearances and a Big Ten tournament championship.

“We were in the same theater class and both athletes,” Hazel told ESSENCE. “Naturally, we gravitated towards one another for group projects because we were already familiar with each other.”

Although they grew close during their college years, romance wasn’t in the cards at the time. Draymond entered the NBA in 2012, beginning a journey that would see him become a four-time champion, while Hazel pursued an acting career that included a recurring role on Empire.

A Long-Awaited Reunion

Years later, fate brought them together again. Their first date in Los Angeles was simple yet unforgettable.

“We went to a rooftop pool and hung out at the cabana all day, which is still one of our favorite things to do together,” Hazel recalled. “We hadn’t seen each other in a very long time, so we hung out all day, talked, and caught up. It was really casual but also reflective of our relationship. We really are best friends.”

That foundation of friendship blossomed into love, culminating in their wedding on August 14. Before saying “I do,” the couple celebrated their union with a stunning engagement photo shoot captured by renowned wedding photographer Stanley Babb of Stanlo Photography and orchestrated by planner Diann Valentine.

Regal and Reflective

Dressed to impress, Hazel donned gowns by Phylicia Ellis, while Draymond sported suits by Eaden Myles. The shoot embodied their shared sense of growth and style.

“We wanted the shoot to reflect where we are now—elevated, more connected, and in tune with each other,” Hazel shared. “It’s a celebration of our natural boss energy.”

Building a Life Together

Since reuniting, Hazel and Draymond have created a beautiful blended family. They share a daughter, Cash, and also raise Olive and Draymond Jr., their children from previous relationships. Beyond family life, they’ve cultivated a shared love of adventure, traveling extensively and exploring the world together.

“We’ve been to so many different countries and experienced so much together,” Hazel said. “We’re both very adventurous and always have fun. I love exploring the world with him.”

A Celebration of Love

On their wedding day, Hazel was most excited about creating memories with the people who have supported them from the start.

“I’m looking forward to celebrating our love and this new chapter with those who’ve been down with us since day one,” she said. “The support of family and friends is priceless.”
