Jamie Redknapp asserts that Andre Onana delivered the ‘save of the season’ against Ipswich, playing a crucial role in securing a point for Man Utd

Jamie Redknapp claims Andre Onana made the ‘save of the season’ during Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Ipswich Town.

The Ruben Amorim era got off to a sensational start at Portman Road on Sunday afternoon as Marcus Rashford put the visitors ahead inside two minutes.

The game had barely settled down when Amad Diallo made a brilliant run down the right flank and his cross was turned home by Rashford, playing up front.

Despite taking an early lead, Manchester United were second best for much of the first half and conceded just before half-time through Omari Hutchinson’s deflected strike.

Shortly before Ipswich’s equaliser the hosts looked set to find the back of the net but were denied by a superb save by Onana.

Liam Delap had the goal at his mercy but his powerful effort was palmed away by Onana.

BBC pundit praises 'absolute world class' moment from Man Utd star vs Ipswich, ex-United man says 'unbelievable'

‘That is an absolute world class save by Andre Onana,’ ex-Premier League goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer said on BBC Radio 5 Live.

‘I’m not sure if it hits him in the head or the arm. Liam Delap doesn’t do a lot wrong, he tries to lift it towards the near post area with pace but Onana flies out to block it.’

Onana’s save drew claps from new Manchester United boss Amorim and huge praise from ex-England star Redknapp during the half-time interval.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Redknapp said: ‘That’s the save of the season. That’s an unbelivable save.

‘Yes he should score but it’s a wonderful save, he gets his big right paw out and he’s managed to keep it out.

‘It’s unbelievable. Delap thinks he’s scored but Onana is so strong, what a save, unbelievable. But he should score.’

Onana had a rough start to his Manchester United career following a £47.2 million transfer from Ajax in the summer of 2023, but he has been one of the club’s finest performers this season.

However, United has continued to underperform, and Erik ten Hag’s dismissal before the international break was due to a poor run of form.
