In Saturday night’s 104-94 victory over the Golden State Warriors, the San Antonio Spurs rallied from a 17-point third-quarter deficit thanks to 25 points from Victor Wembanyama and 22 points from Harrison Barnes.
San Antonio went on a 40-13 run to win the game, overcoming a deficit of 81-64 with 1:55 remaining in the third quarter. This was their first three-game winning streak since January 2021.
After sitting out three games with a sprained right knee, Wembanyama returned with nine assists, seven boards, and three blocks.With 1 minute and 46 seconds left to play, San Antonio held an eight-point lead thanks to 19 points from rookie Stephon Castle, who also stole the ball from Stephen Curry of Golden State and put it behind the 3-point line.
The Warriors, who were riding a two-game winning streak, were led by Andrew Wiggins’ 20 points and Stephen Curry’s 14 points. Twelve points and eight boards were contributed by Trayce Jackson-Davis.
Castle and Wembanyama scored all but two points during San Antonio’s 11-0 run that put them up 97-90. For 4 and a half minutes, the Warriors went scoreless, and for 5 minutes and 19 seconds, they failed to kick a field goal.The Warriors’ bench, which had been scoring 54 points per game, was kept to 36 points.
Spurs: San Antonio had only led for 22 seconds in the whole game before its fourth-quarter surge. Barnes made the first basket of the game 21 seconds into the first quarter with a slashing layup. The Warriors then went on an 11-0 run to take a 20-8 lead.
The Spurs’ last-second surge began when Castle scored a driving layup with 4 minutes and 25 seconds to go. The Spurs went up 97-90 with 2 minutes and 28 seconds left in the game thanks to his 27-foot 3-pointer, Wembanyama’s 31-footer, and Castle’s one of two free throws.
