The Golden State Warriors’ 2024–25 season is off to a scorching start, but on Wednesday, their rotation suffered a severe blow. The organization has announced that guard De’Anthony Melton, who has missed the last two games because of a sprained left ACL, will miss the remainder of the season due to knee surgery.
Melton played a significant role on both sides of the court for this Warriors club. Being able to handle the ball as a secondary playmaker and make open 3-pointers gave him offensive variety. He is among the NBA’s top guard defenders on defense. His influence in every facet of the game will undoubtedly be missed by the Warriors.
Melton shot 37.1% from 3-point range on over six attempts a night and averaged 10.3 points per game in six games this season. The Warriors, who are 10-3 and in first place in the Western Conference, will now need to figure out how to replace Melton’s output in the starting lineup.
Below is a continuation of the Golden State Warriors news article.
With Melton out, the Warriors have a few easy games to attempt to decide what they want to do in the rotation, but Steve Kerr likely has a solid sense of what to do after playing seven games without the free agent addition. Before facing the injured New Orleans Pelicans to continue their NBA Cup quest, the Warriors will play the Atlanta Hawks. They will then play the Brooklyn Nets and the San Antonio Spurs.
The Warriors boast one of the league’s deepest rosters, which is fantastic news for them. Melton’s strengths can be replaced by players like Buddy Hield, Gary Payton II, and Brandin Podziemski, who will be required to fill in in slightly larger roles while Melton is out.
