The Golden State Warriors have unveiled a new uniform that honors the Golden Gate Bridge.
The Rakuten-provided City Edition outfits were unveiled on Thursday.
“This year, the Golden Gate Bridge is our shining star in our uniform,” stated Kim Trinidad, the Warriors’ VP of Marketing and Operations. “Last year, it was all about the cable car, its 150th anniversary.”
The new outfits are adorned with elaborate motifs that symbolize the Golden Gate Bridge.
Some of them are immediately noticeable, such as the specially designed font that was influenced by the Golden Gate Bridge nameplate.”Which showcases the names of all of the construction workers who built the bridge long ago,” Trinidad stated. “We pulled that into the front of the jersey to mark our brand.”
Easter eggs provide additional information that is equally significant but less visible to the naked eye.
It is on the side panels that the bridge’s architecture truly shines through. As a result, you can see the towers’ architecture and the rivets that support the bridge on both side panels from top to bottom. Additionally, those rivets reference our team name. Trinidad pointed out specifics of the uniform and added, “On the other side, it will speak to our love for San Francisco.”
Dennis Mulligan, General Manager of the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District, was there to reveal the new uniforms.Mulligan emphasized the challenges that had to be surmounted in order for the bridge to become the symbol that it is today.
“Neither state nor federal funding were available to build this bridge at the time it was constructed. People really bet the farm in six counties,” he said. “They voted to put their homes, factories, vineyards and farms up as guarantees for the bonds to build the bridge.”
According to Mulligan, the Golden Gate Bridge’s current symbol makes for the ideal collaboration with the Warriors.
“This is an area where people get things done, and the bridge is a symbol of that but so are the Warriors,” he stated. “So, the key is, never bet against the Bay Area.”
The squad will don the new clothes for the first time on Wednesday, November 20 at the Chase Center when they play the Atlanta Hawks.
