“Playing with you for 13 years was an honor,” Curry says. Never forget the memories we made together as Splash Brothers and teammates. I wish you the hero’s welcome you are due.”Welcome back to the Warriors ground,” Kevon Looney, the center, continued. “You are deserving of celebration.” You accomplished a great deal for the Warriors and for me, and you are a legend here.

“I appreciate the person you are and the teammate you are, as well as all the championships and amazing moments,” Kerr continued. “Welcome back! I really enjoyed coaching you.”

But as his old colleagues shifted from congratulating Thompson to cautioning him about what was ahead, the record scratched in the middle of the heartfelt tributes.Gary Payton II said to Thompson, “You already know you’re part of it, Bay, Dubs.” “I just wanted to say thank you for everything, but I have to kick your ass tonight, unfortunately.”

“But we still need to defeat you tonight,” Looney said, grinning. “I’m going to foul you, so good luck.”

In 2011, Golden State selected Thompson with the eleventh overall pick. He then contributed to the team’s victories in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022.
