After the draw against Fenerbahce, Manchester United winger Antony was spotted exiting the stadium on crutches, suggesting that he may be out for a while.

In Istanbul on Thursday night, United recorded their third straight Europa League tie. After the final whistle, Jose Mourinho’s team made sure Erik ten Hag and his men would not experience competition success for a whole year.

Antony only replaced Marcus Rashford in the 73rd minute, but he had to be substituted for Amad Diallo 16 minutes later. At first glance, the issue seemed harmless, but the Brazilian seemed a little uneasy and indicated to the bench that he needed to be replaced.

The former Ajax player was taken off the field on a stretcher, and as he made his way past the media mixed zone to the United coach, he was later observed using crutches and sporting a protective boot on his left leg.Ten Hag can not afford any more injuries, even though Antony has only scored one goal in five games this season in all competitions. Later, the Dutchman had to justify his choice to introduce the 24-year-old before Amad, which infuriated several supporters on social media. He said that Antony had been “training very good.”

Since Ten Hag managed an £86 million trade to get Antony from his previous club Ajax, he has only contributed 12 goals and five assists in 86 games for United. Alejandro Garnacho, Rashford, and Amad are preferred in wide areas this season because he hasn’t lived up to expectations thus far.

Ten Hag already has enough injuries, though, as Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans, Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, Leny Yoro, and Tyrell Malacia were all absent from the trip to Istanbul. Additionally, the outcome did little to relieve the strain on his employment.

After Garnacho, Noussair Mazraoui, and Joshua Zirkzee executed a fluid play, Christian Eriksen gave the away team the lead with a strong finish. Although it was their first attempt on goal, the fun was short-lived.

United led 1-0 at halftime thanks to two incredible quick-fire stops from Youssouf En-Nesyri, but the Fenerbahce striker quickly equalized by nodding in from Allain Saint-Maximin’s cross. Then, after Jose Mourinho was sent off for a challenge on Bright Osayi-Samuel by Manuel Ugarte, the home team had a penalty waved away.

Rasmus Hojlund and Casemiro were called up from the bench in the 55th minute to help United find some inspiration, but they were unsuccessful. After losing to FC Twente, Porto, and Fenerbahce, they are currently ranked 21st in the Europa League standings.
