Sergio Mora Blames “Bad Matchmaking” for Tszyu’s Loss Against Murtazaliev
Tim Tszyu’s third-round TKO loss to IBF junior middleweight champion Bakhram Murtazaliev (23-0, 17 KOs) is being attributed by Sergio Mora to “bad matchmaking.” Tszyu engaged in an unwise bout with this killer on Saturday night at the Caribe Royale Resort in Orlando, Florida. Commentator and former 154-pound world champion “The Latin Snake” More believes that Tszyu (24-2, 17 KOs) was wrong to select the obscure IBF belt holder Murtazaliev for his comeback bout following a psychologically crushing 12-round split decision loss to Sebastian Fundora on March 30th of this year. Mora thought it was a mistake to face Murtazaliev so soon after that loss. Is Mora’s Boxing Attitude Cancerous? Fans of Tszyu are taking offense at Mora’s cautious approach to his career on social media, as they are ridiculing him for his remarks regarding his choice to take on Murtazaliev. They believe that the reason boxing isn’t as popular as the NFL and NBA is because of the cherry-picking mentality that Mora advocates. Promoter interest and acceptance of 50-50 fights are prerequisites for boxing’s growth.Even in the best of situations, it’s doubtful that Mora would have preferred Tszyu to take on a formidable puncher like Murtazaliev since it would have been a poor business decision. Supporters in the US and Australia don’t know anything about Murtazaliev. The only thing that the Russian-born Grozny native had to give Tszyu was his IBF title, which Tim hoped to utilize as a chess piece to increase his leverage in negotiations to secure profitable bouts with Fundora and Terence Crawford.
