Andrew Wiggins, a forward for the Golden State Warriors, will play his first preseason game against the Los Angeles Lakers tonight. Wiggins was sick after media day and missed much of training camp. The Warriors have increased the All-Star’s return to the starting lineup ever since the preseason began.
This season, Warriors supporters have high expectations for Wiggins, particularly in terms of his scoring capabilities. There is a gap on the offensive end that needs to be filled after Klay Thompson left during the summer. The Canadian sensation was the player that most fans could recall.
Wiggins said on Tuesday that he will make his season debut. He also talked about how his illness before to training camp contributed to his absence from the team. It’s difficult, Wiggins remarked. “Because you quickly lose it, particularly while ill. I’ve been putting in a lot of extra effort and working hard to regain my conditioning. I can’t wait for tonight.
The NBA season of 2024–2025 might be Wiggins’ year of atonement. He did not do well last year, producing the lowest averages of his career. Averages for the former All-Star were 13.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists. The head coach of the Warriors continues to have faith in Andrew Wiggins.Steve Kerr, the head coach of the Warriors, feels the same way as most fans do about Andrew Wiggins. With Thompson gone, Wiggins is free to return to his All-Star level.
As the squad looks to challenge for another championship this year, Kerr discussed his expectations for the forward ahead of the upcoming campaign.
“Well I’m not going to put numbers on it, I’m just going to put aggression and peace of mind, which I’m seeing right now,” Kerr stated to Burke. With the recent death of his father, Wiggs and his family have experienced an incredibly trying two years. It has been difficult for him. Without a doubt, his father’s health had an effect on his play and overall wellbeing. Even though it’s tragic, maybe his father’s passing may provide him some peace.”Although Wiggins hasn’t produced the exact stats Kerr is looking for from him this season, the forward should be aggressive when shooting outside the arc.
“To me, I’ve already told him: six 3-pointers a game,” Kerr stated. “He has a great 3-point shooting ability. Although it decreased somewhat the previous year, it has increased by 39–40% after he arrived. I want to attack the rim frequently and I want to make a lot of threes. In the second half of the previous year, he shot more than 80% from the foul line.”
