Danny Garcia and Mayweather Promotions’ Top Prospect Curmel Moton
The unbeaten Mayweather prodigy Curmel “Big Deal” Moton, then eighteen, made a fleeting appearance in South Philadelphia on Saturday night, October 12, stopping Hilario Martinez Moreno in the opening frame. Former two-weight world champion Danny “Swift” Garcia promoted the boxing program that featured the Moton vs. Moreno match. The event was broadcast live on DMDb.com and took place in the 2300 Arena. Curmel Moton, a resident of Salt Lake City, Utah, currently fights out of Las Vegas, Nevada. He made his debut in the professional boxing ring in September 2023. On the Canelo Alvarez vs. Jermell Charlo show, Moton stopped Ezequiel Flores in the opening round of their swing match.
A month after turning eighteen, Moton stopped Nikolai Buzolin in the second round of his 17-fight career. Boxers prefer to be busy, and Moton has been working steadily during this early phase of his professional boxing career. The night of October 12th, 18-year-old Curmel Moton was looking across the ring at his opponent, 25-year-old, and bouncing on his toes. The first thing that strikes you about the Mayweather Promotions prospect is their tremendous level of excitement as the opening bell rings. Moton moved fast to get into striking distance, showcasing his foot quickness. He landed a right to the body after getting inside range. Moton continued by making foot feints before launching his jab. In the first forty seconds of the fight, Moton landed the jab consistently before throwing a four-punch combo. After the combo, Moton made a right-to-body connection.
Because of Moton’s hand speed at the beginning of the competition, Moreno appeared uneasy. When Moreno connected with a counter left-hand shot, he got his moment in the fight, but sadly, that would be the last one. Moments afterward, Moreno was knocked to the ground by Moton’s left-to-body and left-to-head strikes. Moreno was on his knees in excruciating pain from the liver shot to the body, and he spit his mouthpiece out. After that, the referee took a knee right in front of Moreno and declared him out. Even though there wasn’t much action on Saturday night, Curmel Moton (6-0, 5 KOs) was still able to demonstrate why he is one of the fight game’s brightest prospects. In the post-fight interview, Moton discussed his state of mind upon hearing the opening bell. “I ventured outside. He was really shy, so I started letting my fists fly, and gradually, it broke him down. At first, I was just feeling him out—you know, taking his temperature, putting my jab out there. Rising talent Curmel Moton, 18, has a promising future ahead of him. Moton is expected to make his comeback to the ring very soon as he is slated to compete on the Swift Promotions November 30th bill in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
