Artur Beterbiev, the undisputed light heavyweight champion, is only prepared to discuss a potential meeting with Canelo Alvarez or David Benavidez following his impending matchup with Dmitry Bivol.
On Saturday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, thirty-nine-year-old Russian Beterbiev will defend the undisputed 175-pound title against his compatriot Bivol.
Though Beterbiev is thinking about fighting Alvarez and Benavidez in the future, his main focus is just getting past Bivol.
“We’ll see. Regarding a future altercation with Benavidez, Beterbiev said, “Let’s talk about it after.” Sincerely, I have never witnessed him fight. I’m not really a boxing fan, therefore I’ve never seen his fights. I just pay attention to the boxer I have agreed to fight. I am not the kind of person who enjoys watching people fight.
In the highly anticipated fight, Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KOs) will be defending his three light heavyweight titles against Bivol (IBF, WBO, and WBC). In the event that the undisputed champion prevails, Beterbiev might next fight Benavidez or Alvarez in what sounds like a tantalizing matchup.
While Benavidez recently defeated Oleksandr Gvozdyk by decision in his first-ever 175-pound match, Alavrez was defeated by Bivol in his second appearance at light heavyweight two years prior. Alvarez had defeated Sergey Kovalev in his first 175-pound battle for the WBO title prior to taking on Bivol.
Regarding a potential matchup with the undisputed 168-pound champion Alvarez, Beterbiev stated that would be a completely other story.
“This is not the same movie. It is necessary for us to view this movie first before we discuss it. I can never tell who will fight next. Let’s see. I’m not the type to foresee my fights in the future. I’m just a regular boxer who tries to give it his all. I’ll give it my all.
