The YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul is set to face heavyweight icon Mike Tyson on November 15 in a bout that has drawn criticism due to the significant 30-year age gap between the two fighters.
Moving up to heavyweight, Paul recently offered fans a glimpse into his training by sharing a short sparring clip. The response from fans was mixed, with one commenting, “Better do better than that. Mike Tyson’s gonna take your head off.” Another added, “Jake Paul is going to get slept fighting like that,” while one user remarked, “Dude looks slow and sloppy—what happened to him?”
However, Paul’s former trainer, BJ Flores, defended him, stating, “That jab to the body sets up a heavy right hand all day. Great punch selection. Insane pace for a heavyweight.”
Tyson, 58, has also been sharing his own training montages, which have left fans somewhat concerned about his performance. The controversy surrounding the fight intensified when Tyson had to withdraw from an initial July 20 date due to an ulcer flare-up but has since been cleared to continue training. He is required to undergo additional brain and heart tests ahead of the match.
Paul, 27, boasts a record of ten wins and one loss in the boxing ring, with his only defeat coming from a split decision against Tommy Fury, 25, in 2023. Tyson, meanwhile, is making his return to professional boxing for the first time since 2005, although he participated in an exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020.
This fight also marks Netflix’s first foray into live boxing, with the event set to take place at the Dallas Cowboys’ 80,000-seat stadium.
Despite the backlash, Paul has been defending the matchup. In an interview with the Daily Mail, he stated, “Mike does what Mike wants to do, and he’s the one who wanted to make this a pro fight. He truly believes he can beat my ass behind the scenes. To him, age is just a number, and he does look athletic, strong, and good
