FC Twente held Manchester United to a difficult 1-1 draw in their first Europa League game of the 2024–25 season.
Ten minutes before halftime, Christian Eriksen scored a stunning goal from inside the box to break the tie.
United was mostly at ease and on the way to a win until Eriksen made an expensive mistake that let Sam Lammers tie the game in the 68th minute.
Erik ten Hag’s team had 19 shots on goal, with five of them going in. FC Twente, on the other hand, had seven goals, and Andre Onana had to stop three of them.
With 57% of the ball, the Red Devils were in charge. The Eredivisie team, on the other hand, had 43% of the ball. With 541 plays, United made 85% of their passes go through the goal. There were 406 passes made by Twente, and 86% of them were completed.
Marcus Rashford was one of the few players who really stood out for United.
Rashford didn’t start against Crystal Palace last weekend because Alejandro Garnacho was picked by Ten Hag before him.
Rashford, on the other hand, played so well against Twente that Ten Hag will probably think twice about dropping him again.
In the 79 minutes that Rashford played at Old Trafford, he touched the ball 49 times.
In the 33 passes he tried, he connected with his teammates 25 times, for a 76% single pass accuracy. He made two important passes.
The England player tried to connect with three long balls and two crosses. He only hit one long ball that was meant for the right player, not any of his crosses.
Two of the forward’s shots on Lars Unnerstall were stopped.
Rashford went on four dribbles and finished all of them. He did a great job on defense. The 26-year-old won five of the six ground fights he took part in and the one aerial fight he faced off against.
Two clearances and half as the product of Carrington Academy made many interceptions.
He made one tackle too.
These numbers come from Sofascore.
The next game for United is against Tottenham Hotspur, and very few people will be upset if Rashford plays that game.
