Michael Jordan, the Hall of Famer, made an uncommon public appearance this week at the Barcelona versus Monaco UEFA Champions League game. Jordan was seen chatting with someone in Monaco on the first day of the UEFA Champions League autumn schedule.

 

With the exception of appearances at races when his 23XI team is participating, the six-time NBA champion rarely travels to sports events. Jordan has no ownership stake in either team in the Barcelona vs. Monaco game on Thursday.Given the huge stakes and the prestige of both teams, Jordan doesn’t own any shares in either team, but the match has garnered a lot of interest.

Many fans joked that Michael Jordan had to be there since Lamine Yamal is a player who has captured the attention of fans with his amazing performances.

Although it’s unknown if Jordan attended the game as a spectator or to see Yamal, Barcelona supporters rejoiced when the winger tied the score at one goal each in the first half.

Examining Michael Jordan’s relationship with Monaco and Barcelona

Michael Jordan has ties to both Barcelona and Monaco, even though he has no professional or athletic affiliations to either team. Jordan went to Barcelona for the 1992 Olympics as a member of the renowned Team USA Dream Team.

There, the team won consecutive matches, winning the Olympic gold after remaining unbeaten in the group stage. Given his connections to Nike, Jordan and a few other teammates notably protested Reebok during the medal ceremony by covering the company’s logo on the Team USA warmup with an American flag.

Conversely, Jordan has appeared in multiple photos taken in Monaco. Jordan has not only taken vacations in Monaco, but has also visited the area by yacht.

The six-time NBA champion was shown in 2023 marketing his Cincoro Tequila with Samy Sass, the proprietor of Sass’ Café.
