Klay Thompson takes on a short rest although benching: ‘I’m Not Concerned About Outside Opinions’

Klay Thompson, a seasoned four-time champion and five-time All-Star with the Golden State Warriors, responded with nonchalance to discussions about the possibility of being benched amid his current performance struggles this season.

When confronted with inquiries about head coach Steve Kerr’s patience with the starting lineup, Thompson, somewhat dismissive, remarked, “What, do you want them to bench me?” He emphasized the idea of earning patience and time to rediscover form, citing the team’s historical success.

Unfazed by external opinions, he added, “I don’t care what people say. They don’t do what we do, they can’t do what we do. That’s why they talk.”

Thompson’s track record includes being a vital part of the Warriors’ four championship victories and two NBA Finals appearances since his selection in the 2011 draft. Recognized as one of the greatest three-point shooters in history, he has thrived alongside teammates Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

Despite his storied career, the 33-year-old Thompson faced setbacks, missing the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons due to injuries and playing just 32 games in the 2021-22 season. Acknowledging his changed circumstances, he currently averages 15 points per game with a shooting percentage of 40.2 from the field and 36.7 from beyond the arc.
