‘Will History Repeat Again?’: Jeff Mayweather predicts that Floyd Mayweather will ‘His Whooped Again’ on Canelo Alvarez following Edgar Berlanga’s dominant victory

Even after their highly anticipated battle eleven years ago, Floyd Mayweather’s team still seems to underestimate Canelo Alvarez’s potential, despite the fact that the legendary Mexican boxer is still making history. Canelo put on a spectacular performance, winning by unanimous decision and stopping Edgar Berlanga in the third round, following his triumph against the former in Las Vegas.

When questioned about Canelo’s performance and a potential rematch between Canelo and a peak Mayweather, Floyd’s uncle and renowned trainer Jeff Mayweather didn’t mince words. Jeff praised Canelo’s accomplishments in an interview with The Mayweather Channel, but he maintained that the fighter isn’t as good as he used to be. “Canelo belongs to Canelo. Though not as good as the Canelo we’ve seen in the past, we’ve seen a little bit of him,” he remarked. He did, however, observe that Canelo gave a “dominant performance.”

The topic of a potential rematch between Mayweather and Canelo came up, and Jeff boldly predicted that it will end the same as it did in 2013. Yes, he doesn’t have the same opportunity as he did previously. Once more, [he would get] his ass whooped. Like [it] did the first time, Jeff said with assurance.

Jeff rejected the notion that Canelo had eclipsed Mayweather’s legacy when the interviewer pressed him about his many accomplishments since their fight. Pointing out Floyd’s successes in a variety of weight divisions, he maintained that Mayweather was still “the face of boxing.” Jeff remained steadfast and insisted that Canelo wouldn’t stand a chance against his nephew even in the wake of Floyd’s retirement.

Jeff disagreed, saying, “Floyd is the face of boxing too,” upon hearing this. Floyd competed in a variety of weight divisions. Even though Floyd has retired from boxing and Canelo is still competing and has won a lot more fights than Floyd, Jeff Mayweather hasn’t wavered in his belief. Canelo Alvarez disagrees with Jeff; he wants all the smoke.

Canelo Alvarez, who views their first fight as a turning point in his career, has stated that he is eager for a rematch with Floyd Mayweather. Canelo recently said, “Yes, of course,” in an interview with DAZN Boxing. However. If I could exact revenge, that would be wonderful. We are aware that it is not going to occur. However, I would really like to get rid of that tiny thorn.

It’s common knowledge that Mayweather’s counterpunching and outstanding defense during their 2013 bout resulted in Alvarez’s first professional loss, marking a turning point in Canelo’s career. Since then, Mayweather has continued to be one of the most technically accomplished boxers of all time, while Canelo has developed into a multi-division world champion.

It seems that even with all of his accomplishments, Jeff Mayweather believes his nephew Floyd Mayweather wouldn’t stand a chance against Canelo Alvarez. But that might simply be his skewed perspective on the situation. How do you feel about the possible altercation?
