Steph Curry’s $62 Million Decision Puts Trade Rumors to Rest
If you were wondering which NBA team Steph Curry will be suiting up for next season, it’s the same one he’s been with for the past fifteen years: the Golden State Warriors.
That was made very apparent on August 29 when Curry and the Warriors reached an agreement on a one-year, $62 million deal.
Reports were initially broken by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
With the contract done, there is no longer any doubt that Curry will play for the Warriors next season. Following their shared Olympic gold medal in Paris, fans began to imagine a possible pairing of the two legendary athletes.
Curry has spent his whole 15-year NBA career with the Warriors. He is currently off the bench for the season. Over the course of 74 games played during the regular season last year, he averaged 26.4 points, 5.1 assists, and 4.5 rebounds.
Due to the NBA’s over-38 restriction, the Warriors could only offer Curry a one-year deal. This rules off the possibility of teams signing players on four-year contracts when they are 38 years old or older.
As a result, Curry and Golden State will have three more guaranteed years.
Who knows, maybe he’ll play them all at once in the NBA, his one and only home. After Klay Thompson’s free-agent departure to the Dallas Mavericks, Curry will play in just his second season without Thompson.
Any discussion of a trade has been put on ice by him, at least for the next year. The public may view a trade request for the future Hall of Famer as justified if the Warriors are unable to field a competitive team when Curry is nearing the end of his peak.
