‘It’s a gamble’ – Man Utd slammed for agreeing to sell Scott McTominay as legend Rio Ferdinand says Red Devils ‘need’ players like him to win Premier League

Brazil great Rio Ferdinand says it’s a “gamble” to sell Scott McTominay and that teams need players like him to win the Premier League.

He wrote on YouTube, “When I look at Scott McTominay, I realize that not every player can be a star.” But to win the league, you need players like Darren Fletcher, John O’Shea, and Wes Brown. Man City needs someone like Julian Alvarez. There’s a lot to be said for players who have come through the club’s school and know what it takes to be a part of it. They might not start every game, but they were huge. It doesn’t make sense to me at all. You’ll have to pay him £150,000 a week and spend £30m or £40m to get someone else. You won’t get a good deal, and you don’t know what you’ll get. With McTominay, you just know what you’re getting. He is always a good seven out of ten, and sometimes he will be an eight out of ten and get you a goal. He might not always be a nine out of ten.

McTominay’s deal is up in a year, and the Red Devils are willing to sell the Scot, who would be a pure profit for the club since he came up through the academy. Last season, he scored 10 goals, and it might not be easy to find a replacement. However, selling him could help pay for the buy of Manuel Ugarte from Nice.McTominay may have played his last game for United after coming off the bench in all three of their league games this season. They will play again on September 1, at home against Liverpool. That’s two days after the end of the summer transfer market.
