After a postponement caused by Tyson’s latest health problem, boxing legend Mike Tyson will finally face off against YouTube star turned boxer Jake Paul in November. The 58-year-old former heavyweight champion’s ulcer flare-up forced the rescheduling of the bout, which had been set for July. Tyson is adamant about returning to the ring, even though his age and health are causes for concern.
This battle will be Tyson’s first fight in four years, and it will take place in Arlington, Texas, in front of an anticipated 80,000 spectators. Next to him will be Paul, a 27-year-old boxer who has swiftly become divisive in the sport.
Many are questioning whether the battle will really take place because of Tyson’s advanced age and the dangers of competing when in his late 50s. Nevertheless, Tyson has boldly disregarded these worries. During an appearance on Logan Paul’s podcast Impaulsive, the renowned boxer played down the dangers and even dropped hints about a potential rematch.
Tyson informed Logan, “This is what’s gonna happen, to make everything short” in regards to the fight’s possible risks. The story goes like this: “Two men will fight, one will win, they may fight again, and then they go to their separate banks and life goes on.”
Paul and Tyson recently squared off in New York, and the tension between them was palpable. Upon their first encounter after the rescheduling of the fight, Tyson delivered a severe warning to the younger competitor. The moment I apprehend this man, it will all be over, Tyson declared. “Jake Paul will be frantically racing around the ring, but once I corner this man, it will be game over.”
Some people still don’t think the combat will happen, despite all the talk. In an exclusive interview with Mirror Fighting, Paul’s main competitor and fellow YouTuber-turned-boxer KSI voiced his doubts about the event. “It makes me cringe all over again… The whole situation doesn’t make sense to me. “I seriously doubt the event will take place,” KSI said.
He continued by saying the bout was a “complete mismatch” and that Paul was taking advantage of Tyson because of his age. In my opinion, Mike Tyson is getting on in years. I think boxing is more of a sport for younger men, and once you enter your forties or fifties, you start to fall off a cliff. I find it horrible that Jake is attempting to take advantage of an elderly Mike Tyson, and I also think it’s a total mismatch.
No matter how you look at it—as a real fight or a contentious money-grab—the impending bout between Tyson and Paul is sure to be an entertaining spectacle. Paul sees it as an opportunity to further establish himself in the sport, while Tyson sees it as the next chapter in his legendary career. Regardless of whether the event achieves its goals or not
