Bruno Fernandes has agreed to a contract extension with Manchester United, making him the highest-paid player at the club, including at Old Trafford, until 2027

Manchester United is increasingly hopeful of securing a new long-term contract with captain Bruno Fernandes, which would elevate the Portuguese star to the club’s highest earners.

Currently earning £240,000 a week, United is eager to solidify Fernandes’ future at Old Trafford. Sources have informed Mail Sport that there is optimism a new three-year deal, with the option of a fourth, could be finalized soon.

Fernandes had hinted at considering his options after Euro 2024, especially with interest from Bayern Munich and Saudi Arabia. In May, he warned United’s management, saying, “It doesn’t depend on me alone, does it? A player must always want to be here, but the club must also want him to stay.”

The proposed deal would keep Bruno Fernandes at Manchester United until at least June 2027.

Fernandes, who joined United in January 2020, has two years remaining on his current contract, which he signed in 2022. He will turn 30 next month. In over 220 appearances at Old Trafford, he has scored 73 goals and provided 65 assists.

Despite a disappointing 2023–24 Premier League season, where the Red Devils finished eighth, Fernandes capped his season with an FA Cup victory.

There were reports from Portuguese newspaper O Jogo that Fernandes’ agent, Miguel Pinho, had met with Bayern Munich officials to discuss a potential summer transfer. New Bayern manager Vincent Kompany was reportedly keen on making a marquee signing after a trophyless season for the German giants.

However, Fernandes has publicly expressed his desire to remain at United. In an article for The Player’s Tribune, the 29-year-old wrote, “I love stepping out at Old Trafford more than anything else in the world. I don’t want to leave. This has been my dream since the beginning.”

Since joining in 2020, Fernandes has been one of Manchester United’s standout performers.

He added, “I just want my ambitions to align with the club’s. Any fan will tell you the same thing. We want to compete for the league title, play in the Champions League, and reach cup finals. That’s the standard here. That’s what I need. That’s what you all deserve.”

“All I want to do is fight. I want to be here. This is where my family wants to be.”
