On Friday, the breaking competition debuted in Paris. It is based on a popular dance craze from 40 years back. Back then, characters named Turbo and Ozone appeared in the cult classic film Breakin’. Other films, such as Beat Street, portrayed the breakdancing community.Rapper Snoop Dogg and Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo were among those who participated in the opening day of competition. Breaking is one of four new sports in the Olympics, alongside sport climbing, surfing, and skateboarding.

Snoop’s appearance was expected given his status as one of the most legendary rappers in history. Meanwhile, Adebayo may be too young to remember when breaking was a thing. He was born in 1997, therefore he missed the era by 20 years.

Nonetheless, it’s certainly a good way for Adebayo to spend his day off from competition. After assisting Team USA in defeating Serbia in the basketball semifinals, he aspires to earn another gold medal in Saturday’s championship game against France.

Adebayo also won gold at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
