Thursday, Curry also went off without a hitch. Not quite halfway through the first quarter did he reach his lifetime best, dropping 14 of the first 15 points for the United States. Despite finishing the first quarter with 17 points, the rest of Team USA shot a dismal 1-for-8 from beyond the arc.Similarly, Serbia made the most of the downtime. They led by eleven points at halftime and continued to lead by double digits throughout the fourth quarter, denying the Americans any opportunity to score.

At long last, the spark that Team USA needed came from Joel Embiid. He then embarked on a rapid 7-0 run of his own, and the game was finally knotted when LeBron James’ drive was set up by a blocked shot. The United States took a seven-point lead—its biggest of the night at the time—and eventually cruised to a four-point victory when Curry made a massive 3-pointer, his ninth of the game. James and Curry then exchanged layups to extend the margin.

In addition to Curry’s 36 points, Embiid contributed 19 points and 4 rebounds on 8-of-11 shooting. With 16 points, 12 boards, and 10 assists, James nailed a triple-double. Out of all the players on Team USA, only these three managed to reach double digits.

Despite losing, Serbia advanced to Saturday’s bronze medal match against Germany because to Bogdan Bogdanovic’s 20 points. Jokić helped out with 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Aleksa Avramovic collected 15 points to round up the scoring.

In Thursday’s other semifinal, France advanced to the finals by defeating Germany 73-69. With 17 points from Guerschon Yabusele and 11 from San Antonio Spurs player Victor Wembanyama, France advanced to the gold medal game for the second year in a row. In Tokyo, the USA won their fourth consecutive Olympic gold medal by defeating France.
