After Team USA’s epic comeback victory over Serbia in the semifinals of the Paris Olympics on Thursday, the star duo of LeBron James and Stephen Curry found each other for an emotional celebration.
James and Curry were hyped and yelled back and forth to one another as they embraced following the 95-91 win:
Team USA entered the fourth quarter facing a 13-point deficit and looked to be in danger of having its Olympic gold-medal streak end at four. However, the star-studded group showed its resilience by outscoring Serbia 32-15 in the frame.
Team USA leaned on its collection of NBA MVPs to complete the comeback. Curry led the way with 36 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the field and 9-of-14 from beyond the arc while adding eight rebounds, two assists and a steal. Joel Embiid posted 19 points, four rebounds, two assists and a block. James had a triple-double with 16 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Kevin Durant hit some key baskets down the stretch and finished with nine points off the bench.
It was the third meeting between the two teams in the last three weeks, with Team USA defeating Serbia during its exhibition showcase and again at the start of group play at the Olympics.
Serbia put forth a spirited effort and made it clear that the third time around would not be as easy. Bogdan Bogdanović of the Atlanta Hawks had a team-high 20 points, while three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic added 17 points and 11 assists. Still, it wasn’t enough to get past the incredible collection of talent on Team USA.
The Americans will look to earn their fifth straight Olympic gold medal when they play a marquee matchup against France in the final on Saturday.
