On Monday, during the Paris Olympics, a small group of sports icons got together.
Tom Brady, a legend in the NFL, ran across NBA superstar LeBron James at a gala honoring 50 years of Team USA basketball. This week, the US will resume its pursuit of a gold medal.Even though Brady never competed in the Olympics, he knows what it’s like to win and could probably offer James some sound advice as he tries to win a few games this weekend.
At Monday’s celebration, Brady also joined up with Jayson Tatum, Jrue Holiday, and Derrick White of the Boston Celtics. Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors also met up with swimmer Katie Ledecky, who has already won two gold medals, one silver, and one bronze at the Olympics this year.
James and Curry will try to emulate Ledecky’s success as they strive for their own gold medal. After sweeping Serbia, South Sudan, and Puerto Rico 3-0, Team USA will take on Brazil in Tuesday’s opening match of the elimination stage.
After beating Brazil, the US will face a challenging semifinal matchup either Serbia or Australia. With a victory on Thursday, it will only need one more victory to secure the gold medal.
