At Dwight Freeney’s Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremony over the weekend, NBA great Michael Jordan was present to show his support for his longtime friend.
Following a summer spent sightseeing across Europe with his wife Yvette Prieto, the billionaire returned to the United States and wasted no time making his way to Canton, Ohio, to see the induction of the former defensive end.
Over twenty years ago, while playing golf, the Super Bowl victor—who was drafted in 2002 and retired in 2018—met the six-time NBA champion. Golf Digest reports that Freeney has been a regular at the Grove XXIII, Jordan’s ultra-exclusive, invite-only golf course in Hobe Sound, Florida.
According to reports, Jordan plays basketball with the former Indianapolis Colts player multiple times a week. Jordan was also involved in planning the surprise announcement of Freeney’s Hall of Fame nomination. Tony Dungy, the ex-Colts coach, and the former basketball player plotted to have a staged photograph at the player’s golf club while Dungy waited in secret with the good news.
Freeney congratulated Paul Pasqualoni, head coach of Syracuse University, and Will Hicks, strength coach, as he took the stage during Saturday’s event.”You challenged me to my limits and trained me like Rocky Balboa,” Freeney remarked of Hicks.
Jordan sat in the friends and family section, and Peyton Manning, who was also in attendance, was alongside him.
In recent months, the 61-year-old and his 11-year wife Prieto have been enjoying life to the fullest.
They started their transatlantic escape on Jordan’s fifteen million dollar yacht in Ibiza, accompanied by his sister Roslyn, brothers Larry and James Jr., and mother Deloris.
In Portofino, the gang resumed their European journey. While Prieto smoked a cigar, Jordan and the rest of the company were seen lounging on the Italian Riviera.
