According to Duncan Castles, Arsenal have begun negotiations with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Fabian Ruiz in the summer of 2024.

Mikel Arteta’s side are yet to add to their squad in the summer transfer window, although they are close to completing a €50m (£42.1m) deal for Bologna defender Riccardo Calafiori.

Arsenal are also in the market for a new attacker and a new central midfielder ahead of the new season, and according to Duncan Castles, last season’s Premier League runners-up have now made a move for Fabian Ruiz following his excellent performances for Spain at Euro 2024. Castles told The Transfers Podcast:

“Arsenal have opened discussions with Paris Saint-Germain over Spanish midfielder Fabian Ruiz. It is likely that if they do agree a fee with PSG, it will be structured in the same way as the deal they used to sign David Raya from Brentford last summer, i.e. a loan deal with an obligation to buy one year later.”

Arsenal interested in PSG midfielder Fabian RuizRuiz joined PSG from Napoli for an initial fee of €21.5m (£18.5m) in August 2022. The 28-year-old has struggled to secure a regular place in midfield since moving to the French capital, making just 21 Ligue 1 appearances in his debut campaign, while under Luis Enrique last season he made just 14 league appearances.

However, Ruiz has been a key player for Spain at Euro 2024 and was one of the tournament’s standout performers with two goals and two assists. Asked about his future earlier this month, Ruiz told Le Parisien: “I know that my name comes up in every transfer window. But I’m fine in Paris. I still have three years left on my contract and I still have many goals to achieve with PSG.”
