Mbappe has officially signed a contract with Real Madrid, which will keep him at the club until June 2029. He will wear the number 9 jersey, previously worn by Karim Benzema.
The Santiago Bernabeu Stadium was packed with fans during Mbappe’s unveiling ceremony. Prior to the event, 85,000 tickets had been sold out. Before the ceremony, the French forward underwent medical examinations at La Moraleja Hospital, which included checks for a nose injury he sustained during Euro 2024. He also took time to sign autographs for fans before heading to the Bernabeu. Speaking at the ceremony, Mbappe couldn’t hide his happiness: “It’s amazing to be here. I’ve dreamed of playing for Real Madrid for a long time, and today that dream has come true. I want to thank President Perez, who has believed in me from the very beginning.”
“Now I have a new dream, which is to achieve success, to play up to the expectations and the quality of the best club in the world. I will fight with all my might for Real Madrid.” Club president Florentino Perez also had words for the French forward at the ceremony: “I want Mbappe to understand that it is his love for Real Madrid that has brought him here.”
“Mbappe never gives up, and the fans will always be with him until the end. I thank him for his unconditional love for this club. Welcome to Real Madrid,” he added.
President Perez took Mbappe on a tour of Real Madrid’s traditional room, where 15 Champions League titles are displayed. This is a title that Mbappe has yet to conquer. He also gave the new signing a watch and a replica of the Bernabeu stadium.
Mbappe’s unveiling event was described as one of the most spectacular, reminiscent of Cristiano Ronaldo’s unveiling at Real Madrid 14 years ago. Mbappe will earn around 15 million euros per year at Real Madrid, along with a 165 million euro bonus based on performance and contribution. The French forward will retain a portion of his personal image rights.
Mbappe is expected to join Real Madrid on their tour of the United States, where he will face AC Milan, Barcelona, and Chelsea. His first official match for the club will be the UEFA Super Cup on August 14, against Atalanta (the reigning Europa League champions).
