Naturally, the Reds need to find a replacement for Jurgen Klopp before anything else can happen. Ruben Amorim is presently the front-runner and seems to be taking on the nearly unachievable challenge of succeeding a Liverpool legend this summer. Liverpool’s summer ambitions will become more apparent once that deal is finalized.
That doesn’t mean the gossip hasn’t begun, though, as there have been rumors linking the Merseyside club to people like Ousmane Diomande already. Given that Amorim is a Sporting CP defender who has experience playing well under the boss, Michael Edwards may hope that his possible arrival will help close any agreements for these players.
In the summer transfer window, Edwards might possibly try to bring in a few more well-known players, with Joel Matip’s successor probably being high on the priority list. When the seasoned defender’s current contract expires at the end of the current campaign, Liverpool will have a vacant spot that they may choose to fill with a Premier League opponent.
One of the biggest surprises of the transfer window could be Liverpool’s pursuit to recruit Levi Colwill from Chelsea this summer, according to Dean Jones of GiveMeSport. Colwill may potentially leave the Blues as they are apparently ready for bids amid interest in their young defender from both Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain.
Given that Klopp allegedly had secret talks to sign Colwill last year but eventually was unable to do so, the deal may take a while for Liverpool as well. Although the amount Chelsea would demand for the England international this summer is yet unknown, Liverpool will be aware of Colwill’s rumored £100,000 weekly pay.
Many anticipated that Colwill would improve even further at Stamford Bridge this season following an outstanding loan stint at Brighton & Hove Albion the previous campaign. However, things haven’t always been like that.
Although the defender has been a part of another season to forget for the Blues—who are once again mired in mid-table and unlikely to make it back to Europe—he has nevertheless shown flashes of talent.
Despite the fact that Colwill kept Diogo Jota quiet in a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge on the first day of the season, Liverpool will still be fully aware of Colwill’s talent. It’s also quality that Mauricio Pochettino knows all about, previously telling Chelsea’s official website: “At the moment I need to see him and get to know him better. He is undoubtedly a tremendous talent.”
