Draymond Green has a long history with Hazel Renee. The actor and the NBA player were introduced by the actress before he had ever played on a professional basketball court, let alone become a four-time champion. While attending Michigan State University, where he led the Spartans to two Big Ten tournament titles and she competed in track and field, they became friends.
She tells ESSENCE, “We were both athletes and in the same theater class.” Since we already knew one another, it was only natural for us to choose each other for group initiatives.
The two, nonetheless, were not able to fall in love at that particular moment. 2012 would see him join the NBA, while she would concentrate on her developing acting career, which would eventually lead to a recurring position on Fox’s Empire. However, years later, the two would eventually get back together and go on a first date in Los Angeles. It was sweet and uncomplicated, and that made it unforgettable.
It’s still one of our favorite things to do together, she adds. “We went to a rooftop pool and hung out at the cabana all day.” We spent the entire day together, catching up and talking as we hadn’t seen each other in a very long time. It was so informal, yet it also reflected our bond. We truly are the best of friends.
After exchanging vows on August 14, the two greatest friends in life and in love are now wed. Before walking down the aisle, they celebrated by posing for an exquisite engagement picture shoot, which was organized by planner Diann Valentine and captured on camera by renowned wedding photographer Stanley Babb of Stanlo Photography. Renee wore gowns by Phylicia Ellis, while Green wore suits by Eaden Myles, for their two royal appearances in photos.
“We had a broad vision that reflected our present state of existence. Compared to years past, we feel that we’ve come a long way. Renee laughs and explains, “We wanted our shoot to reflect our style and natural boss energy. We are more connected and in tune with one another.”
Since getting back together, they’ve also built quite the life together. Together, they have a daughter named Cash and two other children from separate past relationships: Olive and Draymond Jr. Their favorite activity to do together is travel, hence they are also always together.
“Together, we have experienced a great deal and traveled to numerous countries,” she says. “We both love to travel and have a great time. I adore having the opportunity to travel the world with him.
As husband and wife, she hopes to do a lot more of that. Making priceless memories with the people who have supported them from the beginning was what she was most excited about the big day, she said when questioned before to the ceremony on Sunday.
Renee adds, “I’m excited to celebrate our love and this new chapter in our lives with the people who have supported us from the beginning.” “It is invaluable to have family and friends’ support.”
