Lakers’ Anthony Davis Honored with March NBA Cares Community Assist Award Presented by Kaiser Permanente

The New Orleans The NBA announced today that Anthony Davis, forward for the New Orleans Pelicans, has been honored with the March NBA Cares Community Assist Award, presented by Kaiser Permanente. This honor is in recognition of Davis’s endeavors to promote health and fitness among the youth in the New Orleans community. Each month, the award is presented to an NBA player who most aptly embodies the league’s and its players’ shared commitment to community service.

Davis is being recognized by Kaiser Permanente and the NBA for his contributions to the betterment of the community via his AD Flight Academy. One hundred children participated in a basketball clinic that Davis hosted at the Kingsley House last month. As a surprise, each child was awarded tickets to the Pelicans’ game the following evening. Davis has not only served as a member of the Jr. NBA Leadership Council, where he inspires youth and their passion for basketball, but he has also contributed an extraordinary amount of $50,000 to the team’s player ticket program in order to provide tickets for nearly 6,500 local children to Pelicans games this season.

Davis continued his support for the restoration of the New Orleans coastline by contributing a one-on-one “Bowling with the Brow” experience to the live auction of the annual Toast for the Coast Gala, which is co-hosted by The Audubon Nature Institute and the Pelicans. The “Bowling with the Brow” package has generated a total of $30,000 over the past two seasons to support educational programming pertaining to coastal restoration. Davis was also present at the soft opening of the Pelicans’ Nest interactive exhibit at the Audubon Zoo, where he greeted and assisted children as they gained knowledge about the wetlands in the area.

Davis stated, “Giving back is extremely important to me and my family; therefore, receiving the Community Assist Award for the third consecutive year is a tremendous honor and a blessing.” “Every Flight Academy event is a tremendous amount of fun for me and the other children; it is vital that we give back to the community, and I eagerly anticipate expanding our influence in New Orleans in the coming years.”

In an on-court ceremony preceding tonight’s home game between the New Orleans Hornets and the Chicago Bulls, NBA Cares Ambassador Bob Lanier will bestow the award upon Anthony Davis. The award is in recognition of NBA legend David Robinson, who incrementally enhanced the community by establishing the standard. Furthermore, on behalf of Anthony Davis, Kaiser Permanente and the NBA will contribute $10,000 to the Anthony Davis Foundation.
