Despite heroic efforts from Curry, Warriors Fall to Thunder in Second Overtime
The Warriors suffered their second loss of the season in overtime on Friday night at the Paycom Center, losing 138-136 to the Thunder.
Two games this season have ended in overtime, with the Thunder emerging victorious, and Chet Holmgren had a key role in extending each of those contests. Following a foul call by Draymond Green from beyond the arc, Holmgren converted all three of his free throws to pull the Thunder even with the Warriors’ last-second 3-pointer. Once the clock ran out on regulation due to Curry’s missed 3-point attempt against Lu Dort, the game went into overtime.
A season-high 29 turnovers by the Warriors were a major contributor to their loss, as they allowed the Thunder to score 35 points off of those mistakes. Out of the ten players that played for the Warriors, only Cory Joseph went scoreless. Of the eight players who played for Golden State, Andrew Wiggins had the most, with six, while Thompson and Green each had four.
Despite the loss, the Warriors were still led by Curry (34 points), with 24 from Jonathan Kuminga and 22 from Klay Thompson.
Continuing their road trip, the Warriors will face Kevin Durant and the Suns in Phoenix on Tuesday. On Thursday, they will face the Clippers for a third time in Los Angeles.
