NBA Legend Magic Johnson Proudly Stands by LGBTQ Son at NYC Red Carpet Event
The journey to Broadway!
On Thursday night, Magic Johnson brought along some very special guests to see the premiere of the new stage rendition of To a Mockingbird.
The NBA great was all smiles as he posed for pictures with his wife Cookie and their son EJ, now 26 years old, in New York City.
The family decided to make a statement by everyone wearing bright, contrasting colors. His wife opted for a green suit with a white top, while the former athlete chose an orange turtleneck with a plaid suit. EJ’s drаmаtic ensemble included a burgundy fur coat, a brilliant satin shirt, and satin pants that matched his stiletto boots.
The Johnsons met Oscar winner Samuel L. Jackson on the red carpet and took pictures with him.
Magic and his wife saw a Broadway production and came out raving about it. Magic, a former athlete, even called it “one of the best plays I’ve seen!”
Elisa, the oldest of the father of three’s children, is 23 years old, and earlier this month she narrowly avoided a frightening house invasion in San Fernando Valley.
Two armed me𝚗 reportedly broke into the Airbnb where she was staying with her pals. The me𝚗 reportedly held the 10 visitors at gunpoint and terrorized them.
A LAPD spokesman told PEOPLE that the home invasion did occur, but he or she was unable to confirm that Elisa was present at the time. According to the LAPD’s account to PEOPLE, both male suspects ran away from the scene before police arrived. Fortunately, nobody got hurt.
Elisa apparently responded to the robbery on her Instagram account shortly after it happened, stating, “God is so good.”
EJ, who came out as homosexual in 2013, shared his struggles with dating as the son of a public figure on a recent edition of Red Table Talk.
“It’s always been a challenge. So many things could affect it. I meаn, first of all, the whole celebrity thing — are you trying to date my dad or are you dating me? he told his mom Cookie, co-hosts Jada Pinkett Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Jones, and Willow Smith.
The Rich Kids of Beverly Hills star continued by saying he had yet to bring a boyfriend to his family “because every time I would be ready to something happens and then I’m like, ‘Okay.’ “
