Steven Kerr explains how Moses Moody can get more playing time for Warriors in 2023-24.

Moses Moody left the Golden State Warriors’ rotation less than three weeks into 2022-23 and spent most of the regular season on the bench, especially while healthy. After the teenage wing’s “breakthrough” in late-season practices, Steve Kerr was comfortable calling Moody up for Golden State’s biggest games and moments.

Moody, 21, starts his third NBA season without a Warriors contract. This summer, first-year GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. added Chris Paul, Dario Saric, Cory Joseph, Brandin Podziemski, and Trayce Jackson-Davis to Golden State’s bottom half. Gary Payton II and Jonathan Kuminga are already scheduled for nightly rotations. Off the bench, Saric might be a regular.

What happens to Moody as 2023-24 approaches? Kerr discussed Moody’s status Wednesday following Warriors practice, highlighting two areas he needs improve to get rotation minutes this season.

He works every day on all the skills needed to become a complete and rotation player. Kerr told ClutchPoints of Moody, “Last year, he really improved was crashing the glass on offense; he did well in the playoffs.” “He’s still learning essential skills for a ball-handling wing/guard. Our offense has a lot of movement; you must discern trends. Steph is in the corner and you’re at the wing; cut through to make room. Recognizing all that, we’re working with him on that.”

After sitting out the playoff opener, Moody averaged 5.8 points and 2.6 rebounds in 13.4 minutes in Golden State’s remaining 12 games. His 47.6% two-point shooting and 59.1% deep shooting came on 22 long-range attempts, slightly over half his field goal attempts. As a switchable on-ball defender, Moody guarded De’Aaron Fox, Malik Monk, LeBron James, and Austin Reaves for the Warriors.
