Golden State Coach Analyzes Playoff Setback Against Lakers: Determined to Prevent Repeat Scenario

The captain of the Golden State Warriors believes that his team lost heart, confidence, and became helpless due to a lack of contingency plans against the Los Angeles Lakers in the previous season’s playoffs. After winning the NBA championship in 2022, the Golden State Warriors had a season filled with “flaws” in the 2022-23 season, culminating in elimination by LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the playoffs.

According to many experts, the Warriors could have even been eliminated in the first round if it weren’t for Stephen Curry’s exceptional performance, as he carried the entire Golden State team on his shoulders and scored 50 points in Game 7 against the Sacramento Kings.

In response to this, the captain of the Golden State Warriors stated, “The Lakers identified our weaknesses and exploited them. Last season, our lineup was incomplete and lacked contingency plans. Looking back at that playoff series (against the Los Angeles Lakers), reviewing all the games, we couldn’t find a way to break through when the opponent changed their defensive tactics.”

This left our offense completely stymied. This year, the team will definitely need to have more contingency plans and counter what the opposition will apply against us.”

Another issue that Golden State faced against the Los Angeles Lakers was a lack of size, which provided opportunities for LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and other big men to attack the basket relatively comfortably.

Draymond Green added his thoughts on this and suggested that the team needs to add a center sooner or later, saying, “Looking back at that series, we lost simply because we lacked size. We will undoubtedly need to make changes by finding new big men to improve our situation. I can’t guarantee that adding a center will lead us to a championship, but having more size under the basket may make the team more unpredictable.”
